IUBMB Enzyme Nomenclature

Accepted name: 3-oxo-5,6-dehydrosuberyl-CoA semialdehyde dehydrogenase

Reaction: 3-oxo-5,6-dehydrosuberyl-CoA semialdehyde + NADP+ + H2O = 3-oxo-5,6-dehydrosuberyl-CoA + NADPH + H+

Glossary: 3-oxo-5,6-dehydrosuberyl-CoA semialdehyde = 3,8-dioxooct-5-enoyl-CoA

Other name(s): paaZ (gene name)

Systematic name: 3-oxo-5,6-dehydrosuberyl-CoA semialdehyde:NADP+ oxidoreductase

Comments: The enzyme from Escherichia coli is a bifunctional fusion protein that also catalyses EC, oxepin-CoA hydrolase. Combined the two activities result in a two-step conversion of oxepin-CoA to 3-oxo-5,6-dehydrosuberyl-CoA, part of an aerobic phenylacetate degradation pathway.
