IUBMB Enzyme Nomenclature

EC 3.2.1.126

Accepted name: coniferin β-glucosidase

Reaction: coniferin + H2O = D-glucose + coniferol

Other name(s): coniferin-hydrolyzing β-glucosidase

Systematic name: coniferin β-D-glucosidase

Comments: Also hydrolyses syringin, 4-cinnamyl alcohol β-glucoside and, more slowly, some other aryl β-glycosides. A plant cell-wall enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of lignin.
