IUBMB-Nicholson Maps

The EC nomenclature for enzymes plays a major part in the IUBMB-Nicholson Metabolic Pathways map developed over 40 years by Donald Nicholson. This illustrates general metabolism and is especially valuable as a teaching aid. The map is published by the Sigma Chemical Company (M3782 chart and M3907 poster) and the copyright now belongs to IUBMB. The 21st edition is being prepared and should be available in May. Donald Nicholson is also working, in association with IUBMB, on the creation of "mini-maps" in which selected pathways are enlarged and expanded in scope to include additional factors which cannot be shown on the main map, such as cofactors, organs,tissues, organelles and membranes, and regulation. Examples will be shown at http://www.tcd.ie/Biochemistry/IUBMB-Nicholson/. Comments on these would be welcome. IUBMB intends that the maps should become available in both printed and electronic forms.
