N-glycan/N-linked

From the JCBN/NC-IUB Newsletter 1992 [1]

Nomenclature of glycoproteins, glycopeptides and peptidoglycans [2]

In these recommendations, the prefix N- appears in both normal and italic style, e.g. N-glycan, etc.; N-linked or N-linked. The nomenclature committees of IUMB suggest that N- be italicized only when it is used as a locant, e.g. N-acetyl-, O-acetyl-, N-glycolyl, etc. and not in N-linked, O-substituted, N-glycan, etc.
