IUBMB Enzyme Nomenclature

Accepted name: cytidine kinase

Reaction: ATP + cytidine = ADP + CMP

Systematic name: ATP:cytidine 5'-phosphotransferase

Comments: The enzyme, characterized from the archaeon Thermococcus kodakarensis, participates in a pathway for nucleoside degradation. The enzyme can also act on deoxycytidine and uridine, but unlike EC, uridine kinase, it is most active with cytidine.
